Ho Technical University Advised to Establish Endowment Fund to Support its Operations

ILMA Institute of Science and Technology’s President, Professor James Hawkins Ephraim, has urged the Ho Technical University (HTU) to establish an endowment fund to support its operations. Speaking as a Guest Speaker at the University’s Fifth Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Lecture, Prof Ephraim highlighted the significance of technical universities in Ghana’s development and encouraged measures to sustain their effective functioning.

He stressed the importance of vision, planning, and dedicated staff and faculty in achieving the sustainable development of every university. He also recommended that the HTU strengthen its relationships with industry, pay attention to research, and work with relevant stakeholders to produce graduates ready for the job market.

Prof Ephraim commended the Governing Council, Academic Board, the Vice-Chancellor, Executive Management Committee, Staff, and Faculty for their commitment to excellence and encouraged them to continue the good work. In his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ben Q. Honyenuga, said that the Lecture Series aimed to educate participants, provide new insights, challenge the status quo, and generate new ideas for action-oriented research.

HTU has made significant progress nationally and internationally and aims to become a hub of practical education and innovation to advance sustainable development. The Vice-Chancellor said the University would continue to provide students with the requisite skills, knowledge, and values necessary to address societal challenges and create a sustainable environment.

Prof Ephraim emphasized the importance of mentorship in guiding the youth, especially students, to navigate life with ease. He urged them to tap into the rich experiences of the older generation.

For the most part, Prof Ephraim’s speech highlighted the need for the HTU to establish an endowment fund to support its operations and sustain its vital role in the development of Ghana. He also emphasized the importance of vision, planning, dedicated staff and faculty, relationships with industry, research, and producing job-ready graduates. HTU’s commitment to providing students with the requisite skills, knowledge, and values critical for addressing societal challenges for sustainable development was also highlighted. Finally, Prof Ephraim urged the youth to seek mentorship from the older generation to guide them through life.
